  75.    GETTING STARTED
  76.    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  77.    The information provided below is to help you start the program for 
  78.    your hardware configuration.  For more details about the operation of 
  79.    the program press the F1 (function) key once you have started the 
  80.    program.

  82.    The following files are absolutely essential to run AS-EASY-AS:
  83.  
  84.    ASEASY.EXE  ASEASY.MSG  ASEASY.MNU  ASEASY.FNT

  86.    These  files need to reside in the same sub-directory.  In 
  87.    addition to that, if the files ASEASY.HLP, ASEASY.PRT, and 
  88.    ASEASY.CFG are going to be used, they HAVE to reside in the same 
  89.    (ASEASY) directory as well.

  92.     AS-EASY-AS is started from DOS using the command:

  100.     /4       - Special case for loading WKS files created and last saved 
  101.                with Version 4.00 of AS-EASY-AS.
  102.     /P       - Use alternate menu file (ASEASY.MN2) which provides
  103.                 command compatibility with version 4.00 of AS-EASY-AS.
  104.     /ATT     - Enables ATT display graphics, video mode $48
  105.     /ATT2    - Enables ATT display graphics, video mode $40
  106.     /AUTO=File... - Specify the worksheet to be loaded
  107.                      when the program is started
  108.     /BK=x    - Set screen blank-out period to x seconds
  109.     /BM      - Bypass Mono Detection Scheme
  110.     /CFG=xxx - Specify the configuration file to use

  123.     /NR      - No recalc Linking.  Forces Manual Recalc.
  124.     /NW      - Use Nth bin model rather than Nth+1 (default)
  125.     /Q       - Quick screen updating for CGA
  126.     /RA      - Round Absolute (e.g. 1.6 to 2., -1.6 to -2.)
  127.     /UK      - Set the currency to รบ and @DATE to DD/MM/YY
  128.     /VM=nnn  - Use Virtual (disk) EMS model, nnn-Pages (4k each)
  129.     /VP=Path - Set Path for Virtual (disk) memory File 
  130.     /V1      - Force CGA Emulation (normally on VGA Monitor)
  131.     /XM=nnn  - Use only nnn pages of EMS (each page is 16K)

  135.      Starts AS-EASY-AS for an EGA type monitor, and instructs the 
  136.      program that the data files will be located on drive C, 
  137.      in subdirectory "Data".

  182.    To Install on Floppy or Hard Disk:  
  183.    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  184.    Although the program will work if installed on 360k diskettes, we 
  185.    recommend that the program is installed either on a hard disk, or a 
  186.    high density floppy diskette, since this will permit the help file, 
  187.    the printer setup files, and other auxiliary files, to be available 
  188.    to the user.  
  189.  
  190.    *  If you Install and run AS-EASY-AS from a floppy disk, without      
  191.    *  Expanded memory (EMS), or if the /NE command line switch is        
  192.    *  used, and you remove the AS-EASY-AS program disk from  
  193.    *  the drive while the program is running, you will get an 
  194.    *  error message and will be instructed to re-insert the disk.
  195.    
  196.    If installing on 360k disks, you need to have at least two 360 
  197.    drives, e.g., A and B.  You cannot install the program on a 
  198.    computer with a single 360 K disk drive and no Hard Disk!  
  199.  
  200.   * Place the AS-EASY-AS original diskette in drive A: (or B:)
  201.  
  202.   * Make sure the current logged drive is A: (Type A:, or B:, and 
  203.     press ENTER, if it is not).
  204.   
  205.   * Type INSTALL and press [ENTER].  Then, follow the simple on-screen 
  206.     instructions to install your copy of the program on the desired disk(s) 
  207.     and/or subdirectory.
  208.  
  209.     Note: If you are installing on 360K floppy disks, you will 
  210.           need multiple blank formatted diskettes!

  213.    On-Disk Documentation
  214.    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  215.    The installation process extracts a file called ASEASY.MAN.  This is a 
  216.    ready-to-print formatted, User's manual for the program.  
  217.  
  218.    Following the installation, make sure that the ASEASY.MAN file is 
  219.    indeed on your default directory.  Then, to print this manual: 
  220.  
  221.    (1)  Make sure that the your printer is ON  and there is enough 
  222.         paper in it (the manual is about 102 pages).
  223.  
  224.    (2)  From the DOS prompt, type
  225.  
  226.         COPY ASEASY.MAN PRN and press [ENTER]
  227.  
  228.         Note that if your printer is connected to a SERIAL port,
  229.         then you need to use the command  COPY ASEASY.MAN COM1, or
  230.         COPY ASEASY.MAN COM2 (depending on which serial port your 
  231.         printer is connected to).

  235.    New Features/User's Manual Changes  -  AS-EASY-AS Ver. 5.50
  236.    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  237. 1. On some systems (in particular older 486 CPU systems), you 
  238.    might experience difficulties running AS-EASY-AS v5.5 in 
  239.    windowed mode, under MS Windows 3.1.  In order to avoid such 
  240.    difficulties, make sure you create a .PIF file to run the 
  241.    program (check your Windows manual for info on .PIF files).  
  242.    When setting up the .PIF file, make sure the minimum 
  243.    conventional RAM requirement is set to at least 400K and, 
  244.    also, make sure that the EXCLUSIVE operation box has been 
  245.    selected.
  246.  
  247.    If you are still having difficulties, you might need to turn 
  248.    the 80387 off and use the program's 80387 emulation instead.  
  249.    To do that, prior to running Windows, at the DOS prompt, type  
  250.    'SET 87=N' (without the quotes) and press [ENTER]. 
  251.   
  252. 2. The Data, Input, Form command has been significantly 
  253.    enhanced.  For starters, the number of fields that may be 
  254.    defined, is no longer limited to 20.  When AS-EASY-AS is run 
  255.    in Graphics modes, up to 50 fields may be used with the Data, 
  256.    Input, Form.
  257.  
  258.    Furthermore, the cell immediately above each field, may now 
  259.    contain a number of field characteristics, as described below.  
  260.    Please, note that the basic operation of the command has not 
  261.    changed, i.e., only the row containing the field definitions 
  262.    needs to be highlighted, NOT THE LINE ABOVE IT!
  263.  
  264.    The field characteristics contained in each cell are separated 
  265.    by a semi-colon. The cell entry also starts and ends with a 
  266.    semi-colon.  Here are the various options available:
  267.  
  268.       ?c,r   -  Locate the field at column(c) and row(r).
  269.                 Example:  ?10,5
  270.       
  271.       Cx     -  Set the color for this input field to x  
  272.                 Example: C5
  273.       
  274.       P      -  Make the entry proper case (capitalize first 
  275.                 letter)
  276.  
  277.       U      -  Make the entry all upper case
  278.       
  279.       L      -  Make the entry all lower case
  280.        
  281.       Rx,y   -  Accept only values that are in the range x to y.
  282.                 Example:  R1,100
  283.  
  284.    Some more examples combining the above options:

  287.           Locate the field at column 5, row 15 set the color to 1 
  288.           (blue), and make the entry proper case.

  291.           Locate the field at column 10, row 22, set the color to 1
  292.           (blue), and limit numeric entries to the range -1 to 
  293.           10,000.

  296. 3. A new command line switch was implemented, to allow the user 
  297.    to limit the amount if expanded memory used by the program.  
  298.    (In earlier versions, ALL detected expanded memory would be 
  299.    used).  The command line switch is:
  300.    
  301.                              /XM=nnn
  302.    
  303.    where nnn is the number of 16K pages of EMS to be used.  For 
  304.    example,  using  /XM=10  would instruct the program to only 
  305.    use 16k * 10 = 160K of expanded memory.
  306.   
  307.    The limit is 500 pages (8 Mb).   
  308.  
  309. 4. A modification was made so that when a user uses the /NE 
  310.    command line switch (No Expanded), the program does NOT use 
  311.    expanded memory to load the overlays, as well.  Instead, the 
  312.    overlays are loaded from disk as needed.
  313.  
  314. 5. Two new information screens were added to the program.  
  315.    The /Sheet, Status command now displays important information 
  316.    regarding the user's Hardware, Memory Usage, Command Line 
  317.    Switches active, etc.   The /Graphics, Metrics screen displays 
  318.    important information regarding the current graph settings, 
  319.    Print Device, etc.

  321. 6. If a cell containing a real value greater that 9.9E+14, is 
  322.    formatted using the fixed format option, then the cell displays 
  323.    !!!!!!!!  as an indication to the user that the selected 
  324.    format is inappropriate.  The display may be reset by either 
  325.    formatting the cell using the Scientific format, or by 
  326.    resetting the cell format (/RFR  command).

  330.    AS-EASY-AS Ver. 5.50B
  331.    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  332. A. A modification was made to accommodate users who have a need to access 
  333.    files created with Version 4.00 (and may be early releases of version 
  334.    5.00) of AS-EASY-AS. 
  335.  
  336.    If you access .WKS files created (and last saved) with Version 4.00, 
  337.    it is possible that 0 values in your worksheet will appear as an 
  338.    exponential value with a very large, negative exponent.  In order to 
  339.    avoid that, start the program using the  /4 command line switch, e.g., 
  340.  
  341.             ASEASY /4
  342.  
  343.    If the .WKS file is then saved with version 5.50 of AS-EASY-AS, it 
  344.    will be automatically converted so you will not need the /4  
  345.    command line switch when you access the file again.  (Note that if 
  346.    the file was created/saved with version 5.01c and later, you do not 
  347.    need to use the /4 command line switch). 
  348.  
  349. B. A problem was corrected with @MOD function that might force the 
  350.    program into a loop if a value larger that a long integer was used as 
  351.    an argument.
  352.  
  353. C. A modification was made to the Bar and Stacked Bar graphs so that the 
  354.    lower axes limits are not forced to zero if Logarithmic scales are 
  355.    selected.
  356.  
  357. D. A correction was made to the on-line help facilities, to avoid 
  358.    temporary, miscellaneous string corruption of some help screens. 
  359.  
  360. E. A modification was made to the /File, Import, Dbase, Browse module to 
  361.    accommodate files containing more that 31000 records.

  363. F. The /Data, Question, Extract command was modified so that it 
  364.    now Erases any data in the output range prior to extracting the 
  365.    New data.
